Description

The fourth volume of the Haydn2032 project pays tribute to one of the most important types in the theater of words and sounds: the Kapellmeister - the master of the chapel. It features three symphonies from the "Shakespeare of music." Behind one of them lies a true theatrical piece. It consists of an overture, four interludes, and a finale to conclude the performance, and is titled "Sinfonia in C. per la commedia intitolata Il distratto" (the title under which it would soon be known and performed). In addition, there is a grand comic scene by his colleague Cimarosa that highlights some brilliant or glorious moments (and others less glorious) of Kapellmeister Haydn's activities. (.) Il maestro di cappella (a scene composed by Cimarosa for bass-baritone and orchestra) is a witty and ironic parody in which a representative of the "old school" tries to improve the ensemble playing of his orchestra... To his great displeasure, his musicians respond with a complete lack of discipline: they are unfocused, make mistakes in their entries, and quarrel musically.
