The 11th volume of the complete symphonies HAYDN2032 is set to Parisian time: "Every day we feel better, and consequently we admire even more the works of this vast genius, who, in each of his pieces, knows so well how to draw rich and varied developments from a single subject," writes Mercure de France in April 1788. It continues: "very different from those sterile Composers, who continually jump from one idea to another"... Here are presented Symphony No. 2 (first published in France), No. 24 (first performed in Paris), and the so-called "Parisian" symphonies 87 and 82 "The Bear," in reference to the fairground world, famous for its final movement in the form of a contredanse.
