After the release of "Gone Troppo", even the most die-hard fans had relegated George Harrison to the realm of memories. With the creation of HandMade Films, his film production company, he himself seemed to completely lose interest in music until he produced "Shanghai Surprise" starring Madonna. Tasked with composing for the film's soundtrack, the desire to record another album crept into his mind and came to fruition when the film bombed. The idea of releasing the soundtrack was abandoned in favor of a new solo effort. To achieve this, George the virtuoso surrounded himself with the best (notably Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Ringo Starr, Elton John) and produced the album the public had long given up hoping for: Cloud Nine. His excellent cover of "Got My Mind Set On You" even gave him his first number 1 in a long time. He still talks about love ("This is Love"), his riffs are sharper than ever ("Cloud Nine", "Devil's Radio") and his nods to the Beatles are now free of all regrets ("When We Was Fab"). Years passed, but George Harrison persevered and was back on top.
