Gary Moore Live From Baloise Session

Description

At his peak, Gary Moore was simply the greatest show in rock 'n' roll. From his early days on the Dublin stages of the late 1960s with Skid Row, through his explosive performances with Thin Lizzy in the 1970s, to an ever-evolving solo career that redefined the codes of blues, rock, metal, and beyond, the Irishman approached every concert as if it were both the first and the last, shedding his legendary reputation and constantly reclaiming his place among the greats. We didn't know it then, but when Moore took the stage for the Baloise Session - formerly known as the AVO Session - on November 13, 2008, he had less than three years left before his untimely death at the age of 58. Yet this exceptional performance - captured on the CD/Blu-ray Live From Baloise Session, released on May 23 via Mascot/Provogue - reminds us that the guitarist played with unmatched virtuosity and an incandescent soul, right to the end. Without ceremony or fanfare, the bandleader - accompanied by Pete Rees on bass, Vic Martin on keyboards, and legendary Thin Lizzy drummer Brian Downey - walks offstage, plugs his Les Paul into two Marshall amps, and launches into "Oh, Pretty Woman," the fiery Albert King cover that was a highlight of "Still Got The Blues." A single setlist could never contain his entire repertoire. "Live From Baloise Session," however, is a sharp and concise distillation of everything that made Moore the master of the blues, meeting every expectation one could have of a late-career concert by this immortal artist.
