If images have the power to faithfully preserve the trace of the past, Gottfried von der Golz and the Freiburger Barockorchester prove to us with this recording that music too conceals memory within itself. Rarely performed, Mozart’s early symphonies carry within them the precious reminiscence of Mozart as a child, and the core of his style. The Freiburger Barockorchester thus completes with this disc the portrait of the Austrian genius, in which we find here the trace of the influences of his years of apprenticeship, the outline of his tastes (beginning with the key of G minor, perceptible in Symphony K. 22), but above all the exceptional germ of his work then in the making: there is even an innocent quotation of the aria “Non più andrai” from The Marriage of Figaro (First Contredanse)! The orchestra, led by the expert hand of Gottfried von der Goltz, here delivers the final piece of the Mozartian puzzle.
