Le Freiburger Barockorchester, conducted by Gottfried von der Goltz, performs Corelli's Concerti grossi. Tied together by the repertoire specialists, the program bursts with colors and is full of life. The sound recording by Nicolas Bartholomée illuminates the different sound layers of the carnal dialogue between soloists and tutti. The diversity of characters and the brilliance of the discourse also depend on this wonderful orchestra and its decision to add many timbres to the string ensemble: a rich continuo (lute, harp, harpsichord, and organ) as well as a significant wind section (oboes, bassoons, trombones, and trumpets) that further enhance the theatricality of these thrilling pages. To achieve this, Gottfried von der Goltz has worked on the reconstruction of these additional parts: historical documents attest to the presence of these musicians during the performance of the Concerti grossi. Thus, we rediscover a richer Corelli, a pioneer of orchestral music. An essential and jubilant record!
