Just under five years have passed since Flying Lotus's last album, You're Dead, which was nominated for a Grammy. In the meantime, the artist collaborated with Kendrick Lamar on the extraordinary To Pimp a Butterfly, wrote and directed the horror film Kuso, which was showcased at the Sundance festival, and produced much of Drunk by Thundercat while working to make his label Brainfeeder one of the most innovative labels around. Yet, it was only a matter of time before Flying Lotus returned with a new record. This is where Flamagra comes into play – a work that takes all the advancements and creative choices from the last twelve years of Flying Lotus's career and pushes them even further, blending hip-hop, funk, soul, jazz, tribal polyrhythm, and IDM into an impossible-to-define musical vortex. The artist is joined by a dream list of collaborators: Anderson .Paak, George Clinton, Yukimi Nagano from Little Dragon, Tierra Whack, Denzel Curry, Ishmael Butler from Shabazz Palaces, Toro y Moi, and his great friend Thundercat. David Lynch even makes an appearance for a chilling narration.
