"The Sheer Action of Fini Tribe" is a colossal retrospective anthology from 1982 to 1987. It includes a multitude of archival photographs, an essay by founding member Andy McGregor, who also designed the cover, and essays by his long-time friend, Shirley Manson (Garbage, Goodbye Mr. MacKenzie), and author Alastair McKay. The box set also features the legendary first John Peel session, produced by Dale Griffin and originally broadcast in May 1985. Born in the culturally rich but impoverished surroundings of Edinburgh, Scotland, during the post-punk era of the 1980s, the three founding musicians – without a drummer, too expensive! – quickly found themselves as a six-piece with inherited or low-cost instruments. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Wire, Can, Captain Beefheart, and many angular funk bands, they also drew from the seemingly bottomless well of modern cinema, writing, and art that has been abundant in this culturally rich festival city since 1947.
