IGNITE THE SEVEN CANNONS

Description

Felt is an 1980s pop band. It was formed in Birmingham in 1979 by Lawrence (singer and guitarist) and Maurice Deebank (guitarist), who left the band in 1986 and was replaced by organist/keyboardist Martin Duffy. Felt released a first album, Crumbling the Antiseptic Beauty, in 1981 on the Cherry Red label and had some success with the albums Ignite the Seven Cannons (1985), produced by Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), the very pop Forever Breathes The Lonely Word (1986), and their last album, Me And A Monkey On The Moon (1989), produced by Adrian Borland, singer of The Sound. Originally, Felt’s sound and compositions were quite obscure, almost cold wave. The band then evolved, moving toward much more pop and sometimes sixties-influenced worlds, due to the frequent use of the Hammond organ. Felt is cited as a major influence by many pop and rock bands, for example Stuart Murdoch of Belle and Sebastian or Tim Burgess of The Charlatans. The band would split up at the wish of their fanciful and strange leader, Lawrence, who wanted to release 10 albums in ten years. Here is the 4th album, released in 1985.
