II

Description

Espers began performing in the Philadelphia area in 2002 and quickly established themselves as one of the best new contemporary groups. After the release of the self-titled debut album in early 2004, many things changed. For the album 'II' released in 2006, the group gathered the highs and lows that shaped their lives over the following two years and infused their new songs with a light and darkness that proved decisive. With 'II', the group is found in the form of a sextet, with greater power and capabilities than before. The sound of this album was achieved using an extremely varied array of instruments, from the standard Martin acoustic guitar, Fender jazz bass, and drums to more exotic instruments like the doumbek, dholak, and the larynx of men and women. Espers draws from its different worlds with joy and a sense of humor (and wonder, of course). The result is a convivial sensation: as the record progresses, it warms the room and dims the lights with dense yet pleasant atmospheres, allowing the listener to relax, both in spite of and in communion with the realities of our time.
