Espers

Description

REISSUE OF PSYCH-FOLK BAND'S DEBUT ALBUM The eponymous debut album by American psych-folk band Espers was released in 2004, heralding an era when the underground scene perceived a certain return to roots; young musicians creating new music heavily inspired by folk traditions and psychedelia, thereby distinguishing themselves from existing sounds and approaches. Espers was no exception, acting as a rural outpost, outside of space and time on the outskirts of Philadelphia. The subtle harmonies of Meg Baird and Greg Weeks, 6 and 12-string guitars, Brooke Sietinsons' percussion, arrangements brimming with traditional and classical details, and the regular intervention of acidic-toned guitars, along with the mysticism and melancholy emanating from their compositions, helped forge a galvanizing identity for the band, distinguishing them from other musicians of the time. The album, which had been unavailable since the band's split in 2009, is now being reissued by Drag City.
