Dummy is a Los Angeles-based rock band comprised of Alex Ewell, Emma Maatman, Nathan O'Dell, and Joe Trainor. Their debut album, released in late 2021, garnered praise from Pitchfork and Stereogum, among others. The band spent two years touring to promote the album, and it is this transformative experience that shines through in Free Energy. The highly creative band wanted to become more intense, more danceable, and more psychedelic for their next album. The result is a record that celebrates music's ability to move the body, whether through a teeth-grinding wall of noise, a catchy pop chorus, or a joyous drum machine – or, if you're Dummy, perhaps all of these elements in the same song. Free Energy also features contributions from Oakland-based saxophonist and electroacoustic artist Cole Pulice (Moon Glyph), who contributes on saxophone and wind synthesizers, and Jen Powers of the Powers/Rolin Duo. Released on translucent green vinyl.
