In 2024, we celebrate the 500th anniversary of the birth of the one who was nicknamed the "Prince of Poets," Ronsard. His poetry has inspired more than 400 musical adaptations over the centuries. This program, conceived by Denis Raisin Dadre, juxtaposes several compositions of the same sonnet, both by 16th-century musicians (Gardane, Lassus, Castro, Bertrand, Costeley…) and by composers such as Charles Gounod, Camille Saint-Saëns, Paul Dukas, Maurice Ravel, Théodore Gouvy, Pauline Viardot, or Arthur Honegger, who were captivated three centuries later by the same Bonjour mon cœur and of course the famous Mignonne, allons voir si la rose. An exciting "playlist" of songs inspired by a genius with a "beautiful low, popular, and pleasing style" that has transcended the ages. Featured in this recording are the musicians of Doulce Mémoire for the Renaissance section, singer Marc Mauillon, and pianist Anne Le Bozec for the 19th and 20th centuries.
