Description

It was in 1535 that Sylvestro Ganassi published in Venice the first treatise that develops the technique of the art of ornamentation to a level of rhythmic complexity and unprecedented virtuosity. Playing the recorder, the instrument to which Ganassi dedicates his work, Denis Raisin Dadre applies the rules of the treatise to the repertoire that Ganassi practiced, the frottoles and especially the madrigals of Philippe Verdelot.
With the ornaments, music reveals itself as a living art that practices permanent rhythmic displacement, the exuberant virtuosity of improvisations, and a swing that will be that of 20th-century jazz.
