Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek – known for revitalizing Anatolian folk music and instrumentation by infusing timeless melodies with a modern psychedelic twist – release their new album, Yarın Yoksa, on Big Crown Records. Throughout this new album, recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Leon Michels (El Michels Affair, Clairo), the intensity of singer Derya Yıldırım is highlighted, as is the psychedelic soul of Grup Şi̇mşek. Born in Hamburg, Germany, to Turkish parents, Yıldırım grew up influenced by her family's Anatolian origins and the myriad cultures present in the city. Grup Şimşek consists of French musicians Graham Mushnik (keyboards) and Antonin Voyant (guitar/bass) from Catapulte Records, and Helen Wells, a drummer from Cape Town, South Africa. The collective influences they bring to Anatolian music produce a truly unique and fresh sound that pushes the genre forward while championing its rich heritage. Nine of the album's tracks are original compositions, but they also re-interpret three Anatolian folk songs with their own inimitable approach.
