Glow In The Dark - Vinyle Mi Vert Neon Mi Rouge Splatter Noir

Description

You often hear people talk about how a certain artist saved their life. You also frequently hear people talk about how certain concerts can be intense spiritual experiences. Sure, it can be hyperbole, but any music fan knows these experiences are very real. For Death Valley Girls, the life-and-death stakes and the transcendental power of music are central to their mission. The band literally started as a refuge for singer, guitarist, and keyboardist Bonnie Bloomgarden and guitarist Larry Schemel as they sought to kick hard drugs. It was a kind of rebirth, an outlet for a new way of living. With this new appreciation for life came a thirst for communal celebration. Their concerts took on a mystical fervor. They were a pure manifestation of all the great rock n’ roll moments—the adrenaline of the electric pioneers, the cutting edge of early metal masters, the abrupt cut of the first punk generation—with a hint of nihilism swapped for a life-affirmation. Death Valley Girls' second album, 2016's Glow in the Dark, is a white-hot distillation of their sound and spirit—a nervous, jubilant ride mixing searing guitar riffs, spine-tingling melodic backing vocals, rhythms hammered out by drummer Laura 'The Kid' Kelsey and bassist Alana Amram, and an aura of certain secrecy and subversive power. The band wastes no time detailing their strategies as they kick down the front door with the opening title track. Bonnie and auxiliary singer Jessie Jones deliver the song's call to arms, a rallying cry to unite, multiply, and conquer. It's hard not to feel that magical tingle during the seditious pounding of "Disco," the old-school tremors of "Death Valley Boogie," or the fiery proselytizing of "Seis Seis Seis." While Death Valley Girls ruminated on the infernal realities of the modern world on their debut album Street Venom, the band delights on Glow in the Dark in the secret bond between outsiders and outcasts who refuse to bow to the overwhelming weight of capitalism, classism, and elitism. Out of print since its original release in 2016, Glow in the Dark is finally being reissued thanks to Suicide Squeeze Records on half neon green, half red vinyl with black splatter.
