With the Random/Control trio, Austrian pianist David Helbock focuses on the pianists who have been role models for him. As the title suggests, this new album is a "overview" of the giants of jazz piano: amidst pieces by Carla Bley, Duke Ellington, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock (the famous "Watermelon Man"), and of course the most famous of Austrian jazz musicians Joe Zawinul, we find great standards that were not necessarily composed by pianists ("Blue in Green" by Miles Davis and "Take Five" by Paul Desmond) but whose original group pianists were famous: Bill Evans and Dave Brubeck!
