Lounging on a couch, traumatizing psychoanalysts, "Dame" Bowie in a dress deals cards and dares to make a first great leap towards a sort of proto-heavy metal concocted by Visconti and guitarist Mick Ronson, a blonde angel fallen from Hull. A lover in transit, David only appears in the studio to recharge his batteries and lay down intimate vocals ("After All"), straining towards the future ("The Man Who Sold The World", "Saviour Machine") and unknowingly autobiographical ("The Supermen"). "Black Country Rock" is a tribute to Marc Bolan, a friend who achieved stardom earlier and more intensely.
