Born at the start of the pandemic, Dark Sky Burial became an essential musical outlet for Shane Embury, who was going through a period of inner questioning and a reassessment of his perception of the world. After years of admiration and major influence from various experimental electronic music artists, Embury, an iconic figure in the extreme metal scene, decided to create a project that would unite his passion for experimentation and allow him to constantly push the boundaries of his creativity. "As you probably know, Dark Sky Burial took shape during the Covid years. In 2021, Carl Stokes and I, friends since the age of 18, decided to collaborate. We both come from heavy metal, but over the years, we have ventured down more experimental paths." The new chapter of Dark Sky Burial, marked by the upcoming release of "Sacred Neurotic", is the most collaborative of all. As Carl Stokes points out: "It's always a pleasure to work with Shane. He exudes an inexhaustible energy, a creativity of unfathomable depth. Friends since the mid-80s, we have developed a common intuition. As soon as an idea is presented to him, Shane instantly knows how to bring it to life. True alchemy." For Shane, Dark Sky Burial is much more than a simple project. It is a different, complex work, shaped by personal tragedies and a quest for truth. Embury is convinced that DSB has instilled in him the meaning and need to discover his true identity. "Sacred Neurotic" marks the culmination of five years of creative evolution between Shane Embury and Carl Stokes. "We both sing on this album, and Carl also played drums on some tracks, mixed with electronic drums. We also added synthesizers and guitars," explains Shane. "This album marks a considerable advance, both vocally and musically, in many different directions compared to previous albums with a more electronic theme." Inspired by Jungian concepts of shadow and individuation, this album explores the inner conflict between light and darkness. "What if the neurotic was right? What he perceives in this world is something monstrous, the monster that slumbers within each of us!", Carl and Shane wonder, evoking the very essence of the album. "A collection of tracks drawing their inspiration from ancient religions, archetypes and metaphors. The themes of humanity's perpetual struggle against its opposites echo our own difficulty in reconciling the opposites within us. An album that is at once anguished, frantic, sometimes gentle and melodic, imagined by two old friends united by a shared passion for limitless creativity."
