Yesterday Is Gone

For Dana, Yesterday Is Gone is an attempt to “learn how to say what she feels, and to feel what she says”: an album about desire, about devotion to desire, and the uncertainty that comes with self-discovery, an album about pushing boundaries, failing, and then getting back up. Many songwriters share this goal, but few demonstrate such self-assurance. Born in Vancouver to a Serbian family, Dana always wanted to sing. During her last year at the University of Montreal, she decided to pick up the guitar again. She spent a summer working as a production assistant for her father, earning enough money to devote herself entirely to writing for a year, and released her EP Spring Demos in September 2017. After Spring Demos, Yesterday Is Gone represents Dana's desire to “do something bigger, more thoughtful.” The record is co-produced by Dana, Toronto-based musician Sam Gleason, and Mike Lindsay of Tunng and LUMP. The album takes shape in the hands of the three musicians, taking on different flavors, feelings, and visions.
