“AN EVENT IN THE JAZZ TRIO.” Clover is something new. A creation born of a long friendship, intense collective experience, and a desire for stripped-down music. After 20 years of close artistic and human collaboration, already clearly embodied by the creation of the Yolk label and numerous collective projects, the three companions Alban Darche, Sébastien Boisseau and Jean-Louis Pommier now formalize another long-delayed dream: to turn this trio of artistic directors, label founders, and project leaders into a true musical group. In the mid-90s, the two generations met: Jean-Louis Pommier already had an impressive background, counting among the trombonists sought after by Patrice Caratini’s Onzetet, Eddy Louiss’s Multicolor Feeling or La Bande à Badault, while Alban Darche and Sébastien Boisseau (both born in 1974) were finishing their training with JF Jenny-Clark, forming foundational groups (Triade, Kaput-K, Jazzophone, Le Cube...), and were both immediately noticed by their peers and awarded at the national La Défense competition. It was in 2000 that the three musicians set out together. They were then living in three different cities: Tours, Le Mans and Nantes. They created YOLK at a time when the emerging digital industry wanted to sound the death knell for the record. But between the three of them, they shared their own observations, intact energies and a voracious appetite for music that combines the historical ingredients of jazz with its most current trends. They were also aware of the crucial contribution of record labels to the evolution of the music they love. Blue Note, Impulse, ECM, Label Bleu, JMT/Winter & Winter, to name just a few, represent great laboratories in which the greatest researchers record their work. It is this adventure that attracts them. Clover makes its entrance with a resolutely poetic program. Melodic pieces written like settings ready to receive that elusive object that is poetry. Here it is offered as a suspension of time, that time which music ceaselessly multiplies, divides, and assembles, to create forms that carry meaning. “Clover makes no claim other than the pleasure of sharing and the expression of feelings.
