'Another Country' is the fifth album by Cindy, the San Francisco band whose project is built on the compositions of Karina Gill. Recorded, like all previous ones, in their hometown with the same lineup as their previous release (the 2024 EP Swan Lake), it is steeped in the poetry of intimate landscapes, dramas overheard at doorways, and mysterious winds. These themes are dear to Cindy, and yet, as always, they hold a new mystery and charm, like so many subtle revelations. Both opaque in its intentions and precise in its presentation, Another Country offers a truth that keeps the listener in search of elusive answers. The title of this album, 'Another Country', refers to the eponymous novel by James Baldwin. This book holds a dramatic dimension that resonates with me. When I observe the world around me, the obvious explanations are not enough. The fog of feelings and ideas meant to explain everything is not enough. Baldwin transcends that to reach aspirations that, in turn, begin to illuminate things. Cindy's songs are born from the X-rays that my particular brain takes from what I see and experience. What you hear on this album is the result of a collaboration with the members of Cindy, which transforms this darkness into a colorful and fully embodied reality. Each of them, musically speaking, is confident and determined, and recording this album together was like... yes, yes, you know what I mean.Cindy is composed of Karina, Staizsh, Will, and Oli. Another Country will be released on May 1, 2026, on Tough Love. For fans of: Galaxie 500, Algebra Suicide, Mazzy Star, early Low albums, Linda Smith, Velvet Underground.
