Yes, the second album by Chanel Beads, Your Day Will Come, bears the same title as the first release of this experimental project, which came out in 2024 and revealed it to the general public. But it is an entirely new work, not a sequel, a repetition, or a reinterpretation. While its initial intention was to mock the system that divides music into chapters, Shane Lavers discovered, as he developed the tracks, that this title contained deeper nuances, evoking the duel between certainty and doubt that inhabited him. Although the expression unfolds with conviction, a slight variation in intonation can evoke troubling ambiguities: Will your day come? What will it look like? How can one be sure? This second release, Your Day Will Come, marks a significant sonic evolution for Chanel Beads: the sound is enriched with new compositions and new musicians. Violinist Zachary Paul is more present, while Lavers continues to explore the symbolism of plugins. The airy voice of Maya McGrory resonates again on the album, and she co-wrote the majestic track "Silver Cup." These 14 tracks, more fleshed out and structured, are the result of a collaborative approach that favored spontaneity and imperfections. Informal meetings allowed friends like Tchad Cousins ??(Urika's Bedroom), Mari Maurice (More Eaze), Anastasia Coope, and Bella Litsa to contribute to the album. "Dust in the Wind" is a collaboration with Isaac Eiger from Strange Ranger and Threshold, marking the first co-writing outside the trio. Although the scenes have become larger, the spirit of Chanel Beads remains resolutely underground. Emotional sublimation is at the heart of Chanel Beads, as if one could grip something so tightly that it becomes transcendent. Drawing from personal experiences, Your Day Will Come uses dream logic to explore the liminality and fragility of memory. The album is tinged by the specters of specific losses, but also by the way one can haunt oneself by falling back into old habits.
