Cattle Decapitation has never hesitated to confront the horror that humanity has inflicted on nature, and "Death Atlas" is their darkest project to date. The album cover illustration is proof of this: a hunched, skeletal Reaper carrying the burned remnants of our planet on its back. "The central concept of this record is the insignificance of humanity despite what we have convinced ourselves," explains singer Travis Ryan. This is partly why this album cover is set in space, to remind us that "the universe always finds a way to purge itself. In the grand scheme of things, our species is just a fleeting thought." This imagery is accompanied by a fierce soundtrack that blends death metal, grindcore, black metal, sludge, doom, and drone. "Death Atlas" also features a number of guests: Laure Le Prunenec (Igorrr, Ricinn), Riccardo Conforti (Void of Silence), Dis Pater (Midnight Odyssey), Jon Fishman (Phish) - plus the instrumentalists from Ottone Pesante. The final result of these experiments and collaborations is one of the most devastating records of 2019.
