Andando el Tiempo brings new compositions from Carla Bley with a wide emotional spectrum, highlighting her originality and ingenuity as a jazz composer. Saints Alive! features lively conversations among her musicians, driven by striking phrases emanating from Steve Swallow's bass and Andy Sheppard's soprano saxophone, while the majestic Naked Bridges/Diving Brides draws its inspiration from Mendelssohn and the poetry of Paul Haines. Finally, the powerful composition in three parts that gave its name to the album, evoking the trials and difficulties inherent in the healing of addiction, navigates from sadness to hope and joy. The trio, with Sheppard and Swallow, has been a driving force in Carla's writing for over twenty years and provides her with one of the best environments for the expression of her unique piano playing. Just like the critically acclaimed album Trios, released by ECM in 2012, Andando el Tiempo was recorded at the famous RSI Studio in Lugano and produced by Manfred Eicher.
