The fourth album by Broken Chanter, This Could Be Us, You, or Anybody Else, opens with the striking phrase "This future is bright and I don't want it" and unfolds ten powerful and visceral tracks that question the growing alienation of the contemporary world. Recorded at Chem19 studio with producer Paul Savage and regular collaborators Charlotte Printer, Bartholomew Owl, and Martin Johnston, the album draws on the energy of 80s militant post-punk to offer urgent, communal, and revealing rock. Inspired by an engraving by Arpita Singh, the record blends anger, humanity, and solidarity, driven by imposing rhythms, intertwined guitars, and the cinematic writing of David MacGregor. More openly focused on the search for collective comfort than Chorus of Doubt, it asserts a burning resistance to a dystopian future that is drawing near.
