The fourth album by Broken Chanter, This Could Be Us, You, or Anybody Else, opens with the striking line « This future is bright and I don't want it » and unfolds ten powerful, visceral tracks that question the growing alienation of the contemporary world. Recorded at Chem19 studio with producer Paul Savage and regular collaborators Charlotte Printer, Bartholomew Owl and Martin Johnston, the album draws on the energy of militant 80s post-punk to deliver urgent, communal, and revealing rock. Inspired by an engraving by Arpita Singh, the record blends anger, humanity, and solidarity, driven by imposing rhythms, interwoven guitars, and the cinematic songwriting of David MacGregor. More openly focused on seeking collective comfort than Chorus of Doubt, it asserts a burning resistance in the face of an approaching dystopian future.
