For the past ten years, Martin Nathan and Raphaël Talis have been producing very personal music, a cross-disciplinary approach to dub, from its origins to its most contemporary forms. Founders of the French dub scene that exploded in the 90s alongside High Tone, Kaly Live Dub, Improvisators Dub and other Zenzile, the duo nevertheless appears more "cerebral", with a dark and tortured touch that tempers their "electric" side. This is evidenced by a first 5-track EP Bipolar Disorder followed by their first album Always Greener, which logically confirms the duo's uniqueness. In parallel, Brain Damage teamed up, for one album, with English dub propagandists Alpha & Omega, then collaborated with diverse and prestigious artists: Disciples, Scorn, Zion Train, Lab°, Spectre, proving their international renown. In 2004, still combining instruments and machines, Brain Damage reconnected with the "vocal dub" spirit of the pioneers through the superb Ashes To Ashes / Dub To Dub released on Hammerbass. This approach culminated with the successive releases of "Spoken Dub Manifesto" and "Short Cuts", two conceptual albums with a plethora of prestigious guests such as Black Sifichi, Mark Stewart, Sam Clayton, Hakim Bey, Emiko Otta, Giovani "Subtitle" Marks, propelling Brain Damage to the forefront of experimental and mutant dub.
