Things are getting crazier every day; these times are even worse than what one could have feared just a few years ago, but fortunately there are many forms of expression that stand as bulwarks against resignation and defeatism. BLEAKNESS is a powerful testament to that. 'Life at a Standstill' is the second album by this prolific and inspired band. Across these ten new songs, BLEAKNESS walks a tightrope between tension and a certain sensitivity. The band succeeds in nuance and inventiveness: more vocal diversity, more melodic and rhythmic richness... without losing the energy and urgency so acclaimed in their previous efforts. 'Life at a Standstill' shows the range of possibilities within punk culture, BLEAKNESS brings plenty of new atmospheres into its universe. In the vein of their previous recordings, Bleakness explores with this new album its 80s influences, English post-punk, Californian death rock (...) and mixes them with its hardcore punk roots. The result is dark and energetic, committed and melancholic. Bleakness takes hold of the atmosphere of the early days of goth and injects it with a heavy dose of hardcore punk rage. Like the music, the lyrics are a bleak assessment of the times we are living in. Life At A Standstill is a collection of life stories from an oppressed and angry generation. In 2022, the band is determined to make up for lost time and deliver this dark but above all unresigned message, everywhere in France and abroad.
