The English indie rock band Black Box Recorder was formed in London in 1997 and included Sarah Nixey, Luke Haines (from The Auteurs), and John Moore (from The Jesus and Mary Chain). Their debut album, England Made Me, was released on the Chrysalis Records label in 1998. The album was named after the eponymous novel by Graham Greene and blends indie rock and easy-listening pop styles with lyrics that explore life and the experience of growing up in England. Michael Sandlin from Pitchfork described the album's sound as "slightly morose but with a touch of irony reminiscent of the pop sensibility of Sylvia Plath and Paul McCartney." England Made Me remains a highlight in the band's catalog with notable tracks such as 'Kidnapping An Heiress,' 'Girl Singing In The Wreckage,' and the single 'Child Psychology,' which recently came back into the spotlight with a viral moment on social media after being championed by Billie Eilish. This anniversary edition has been organized with the help of the band and includes a newly remastered version of the album, as well as a bonus 10-inch vinyl featuring six B-sides, four of which are appearing on vinyl for the first time. All audio has been remastered from the original production tapes by Phil Kinrade at AIR Mastering and cut by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios.
