Lumen

Description

It is not common to record alone in a church at 3 a.m. I am not a believer, but that night, I experienced something singular: it was as if the music was guiding me, and not the other way around. Lumen was born from a mix of very written compositions and free improvisations, captured in the moment. It is in this in-between that the magic happens—if you let yourself be carried away. I recorded on a Yamaha grand piano and a felted upright piano, day and night, in a true solitary retreat. The more I played, the more the music drew me toward it. Today, I seek simplicity: saying the most with the least. Solo, the freedom is total, but it also implies more responsibility. Each concert becomes unique, shaped by the instrument, the venue, the acoustics, the moment. Lumen is only a starting point. Its true life begins now, with each new listen. - Bill Laurence
