«Good Grief» is the first new solo album in 25 years from songwriter and producer Bernard Butler (ex Suede). In the meantime, Butler ventured into the world of writing and producing pop songs, including two flagship albums with folk musician Sam Lee, a Mercury-nominated project with actress Jessie Buckley, as well as a collaboration with Bert Jansch and Ben Watt from Everything But The Girl, The Libertines, Tricky, and a Grammy Award-winning record with Duffy, which sold eight million copies.
About his return to solo work after two and a half decades, Butler states: «For a long time, I had scars and I was scared. I was joyfully distracted and joyfully involved in so much music. I realized that just being there was so much more than I had ever hoped for. I gave a lot to others, but I realized that my story was defined by who I was rather than who I am. I set myself a modest but creative commercial goal: to play in front of 10 people without being bottled up, then to find 11 the following night. Thus began the destruction of my own embarrassment. I would write as I thought and I would sing while I wrote until the bottles flew away. And so, the songs came."
