At the head of a new quintet, pianist Benjamin Lackner presents in Spindrift a different facet of his approach to composition. He combines the phrasing and tone of trumpeter Mathias Eick with the highly personal style of saxophonist Mark Turner, joined by double bassist Linda May Han Oh and drummer Matthieu Chazarenc. Subtle echoes of fanfares give way to long lyrical and contemplative passages through a program made up of original compositions.
