Originally, the album the swan song preceding Basement's first hiatus, Colourmeinkindness (2012), was a significant release for the English band that established them as one of the best songwriters in the emerging rock scene of the 2010s. After their debut album I Wish I Could Stay Here released in 2011, Colourmeinkindness is a mature album from the very first discordant notes of the song "Whole," which opens the album and has been resonating in concert halls around the world for the past decade as the opening track for Basement's shows. The album is a long-time favorite because it offers a variety of different sounds - melodic songs like "Covet" and "Bad Apple," emo-inspired tracks like "Breathe" and "Comfort," and huge riffs on "Spoiled" and the final song "Wish."
