WIRED marks a new beginning for Basement. It is the British band's first album in eight years, a reunion with their original label, Run For Cover Records, and a return to music infused with the unbridled passion and creative intuition that have always driven their best compositions. Since their formation in 2009, Basement has remained composed of the same five friends (singer Andrew Fisher, guitarists Alex Henery and Ronan Crix, bassist Duncan Stewart, and drummer James Fisher) united by an unbreakable chemistry. Only their renewed determination has evolved in recent years, and this new album proves it emphatically. Wired is the most dynamic, bold, and inspired album Basement has ever produced, while retaining the timeless fundamentals of their unique sound: saturated guitars, catchy choruses, and impactful, emotionally charged lyrics. Basement is back in top form, but the band does not intend to rest on its laurels. All members were convinced that Wired had to be their most accomplished work to date. The title track "WIRED" is their most powerful song yet, a concert staple driven by incisive guitars, an unrelenting drum rhythm, and a catchy riff that showcases the full power of Fisher's voice. "Broken By Design" presents a diametrically opposed atmosphere: dark, delicate, dominated by bass, yet retaining Basement's signature with its immediately engaging quality and melancholic vibe. On WIRED, nothing sounds static. Every element is perfectly crafted. The band drew inspiration from a multitude of bold groups (REM, Interpol, Smashing Pumpkins, among others) without ever giving the impression of imitating anyone, not even themselves. The album title condenses all of this into a single word. The textural connotations of WIRED, metallic, sharp, and cutting, evoke the incisive sound of the album, and, more abstractly, the title symbolizes Basement's unwavering tenacity. An analog band that has thrived in an increasingly digital world without indulging in nostalgia. Five friends who have overcome several breakups and pivotal moments, yet have only grown individually and evolved musically. At this stage, Basement must accept its destiny: they are made for this.
