Guilt

Description

ANNA began as a lo-fi music solo project created by Tours-based artist Mar&n Vidy, inspired by Anna Karina, Daniel Johnston, and Tim Presley. He released three initial albums, compilations of his solitary tinkering, before recruiting three other musicians (two of whom came from jazz) in 2017, expanding his influences in the process. The band successfully executes a fresh and methodical appropriation of pop, in compositions that gain power and scope through ingenious mirror structures and a refined group sound, without losing the freshness of bedroom pop compositions. The result is a nonchalant pop, barely depressive, sometimes edgy and electric, sometimes light, floral and colorful, often drawing from Broadcast, Beck, or Stereolab. While the first three albums were recorded at home on cassette recorders, Guilt is ANNA's first album arranged as a band and recorded in a studio.
