Cantates

Description

Andreas Scholl sang Bach for the first time at the age of 9, while he was in a children's choir. The German countertenor returns to his musical roots for his new album, with a selection of Cantatas that he particularly cherishes. These cantatas are designed as true dialogues equally between solo voices and instruments in a reduced formation. The interpretation of the theme of a cantata and the theological narration is left to the personal appreciation of the singers and instrumentalists. The difficulty of this magnificent repertoire lies for Andreas Scholl in the understanding and knowledge of the text and the context in which these works were composed. His wish in recording this disc was to "best serve the music of Bach." The result is a magnificent disc, with an intense atmosphere, imbued with reflection and emotion.
