Andreas Scholl returns here to his favorite repertoire, opening the doors to the splendid works of Frantisek Tuma. An overlooked Bohemian composer from the late Baroque period, Tuma was among the great musical figures of the 18th century at the court of Vienna, where he was particularly valued for his sacred music and grand counterpoint. Alongside the Czech Ensemble Baroque and its conductor Roman Válek, specialists in this repertoire, Andreas Scholl performs several of his emblematic works, including the motets and cantatas composed for Queen Elisabeth-Christine of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. In this twilight Baroque atmosphere, the incomparable timbre of Andreas Scholl finds fullness and embraces the invention and expressive intensity of Tuma, all in chiaroscuro.
