Solace of the Mind

Description

Red Hook Records is proud to announce the release, on June 20, 2025, of Solace of the Mind, a solo album of profound sensitivity by pianist, organist, singer, and brand-new NEA Jazz Master Amina Claudine Myers. This exceptional recording - following her critically acclaimed duo with Wadada Leo Smith, Central Park's Mosaic of Reservoir, Lake, Paths and Gardens, released on Red Hook last May - bears witness to the uncompromising artistic vision of an iconic figure in creative music, whose remarkable journey stretches from church choirs in Arkansas to the avant-gardes of the music scene. For more than six decades, Amina Claudine Myers has pushed stylistic boundaries, nourishing her art with her rich musical roots: Baptist and Methodist church songs, gospel, and rhythm and blues. Solace of the Mind is a deeply personal work, tracing her musical evolution through the piano, the Hammond B3 organ, and the voice. The result is a vibrant manifesto, where tradition and modernity intertwine with emotion and intensity. Produced by Sun Chung, founder of Red Hook Records and former ECM label producer, the album stands out for its remarkable sonic precision. Every musical nuance is rendered with rare fidelity, offering an immersive soundstage that highlights the expressive intimacy at the heart of Myers' performance.
