Red Hook Records is proud to announce the release, on June 20, 2025, of Solace of the Mind, a solo album of profound sensibility by pianist, organist, vocalist, and new NEA Jazz Master, Amina Claudine Myers. This exceptional recording—following her critically acclaimed duo with Wadada Leo Smith, Central Park's Mosaic of Reservoir, Lake, Paths and Gardens, released on Red Hook last May—testifies to the uncompromising artistic vision of an iconic figure in creative music, whose remarkable journey spans from church choirs in Arkansas to the avant-garde music scene. For over six decades, Amina Claudine Myers has pushed stylistic boundaries, nurturing her art with her rich musical roots: Baptist and Methodist church hymns, gospel, and rhythm and blues. Solace of the Mind is a deeply personal work, tracing her musical evolution through piano, Hammond B3 organ, and voice. The result is a vibrant manifesto, where tradition and modernity intertwine with emotion and intensity. Produced by Sun Chung, founder of Red Hook Records and former ECM label producer, the album stands out for its remarkable sonic precision.
