In March 2009, the news of his death had the force of a hammer blow. When people pass away, they are wrapped in superlatives meant to ease the journey. Alain was therefore described, in obituary after obituary, as the “last of the greats.” A year and a half later, and listening to OsezBashung, it appears that this expression was not overused. On the first CD, we wander through the heart of his classics: from “La nuit je mens” to “Gaby,” from “Joséphine” to “Bijou,” from “Ma petite entreprise” to “Madame rêve,” we plunge back into these tracks which, at one time or another, were the soundtracks of our lives. We find ourselves fascinated by the intact evocative power of each lyric, of each melody. On the second disc, we confront Bashung’s story with that of music. Throughout his life, Alain rubbed shoulders with his heroes, crossing swords with Gainsbourg, Ferré, Hendrix, Brel, Christophe, Dylan, Trénet, on covers he dressed up from head to toe. A strange journey, which from “L'homme à tête de chou” (for the first time on CD) to “Everybody's talkin'” lifts a corner of the curtain on the intimacy of a Bashung ravenous for music.
