5 years after “l'imprudence”, Alain Bashung returns with “Bleu pétrole”. This record will bear, blushing, the most glowing superlatives: splendid for some, it will be nothing less than moving for others. The last refuge before the peaks where Alain now wanders alone, “Bleu pétrole” marks a return to pop spontaneity, signaling a desire to “make peace” with a format left behind on the shores of “L'imprudence”. Here, Bashung’s voice cuts through the music to plant thrusts and banderillas where the heart goes boom. It will take time to digest “Comme un lego”, to tame “Tant de nuits”, to forget the gimmick of “Résidents de la république”. Time to realize that for ages Bashung has been leading the pack of the very best made in France: “Osez Joséphine”, then “Chatterton”, “Fantaisie militaire”, “L'imprudence” and “Bleu pétrole”. Not a misstep. On this album Alain worked with Gaëtan Roussel (Louise Attaque, Tarmac), who tailored tracks for him: “Résidents de la république”, “Sur un Trapèze”, “Hier à Sousse”... and produced the album with Mark Plati (The Cure, David Bowie, Rita Mitsouko). He also enlisted Gérard Manset on 4 tracks, including the cover of “Il voyage en solitaire”, as well as Arman Méliès and Joseph D'Anvers.
