A true tenor saxophone UFO, Hank Mobley left his mark on Jazz thanks to the subtlety of the sonic aggressions he pioneered. Caught between the sweetness of a Stan Getz and the violence of John Coltrane, he outshone many saxophonists with his talent. Released in 1966, 'A Slice Of The Top' pays homage to Miles Davis' legendary 'Birth Of The Cool'. Surrounded by giants such as James Paulding (alto sax), Bob Cranshaw (double bass), Billy Higgins (drums), and Lee Morgan (trumpet), the saxophonist incorporated the virtuosity of Kiane Zawadi (euphonium) and Howard Johnson's tuba into his compositions.
