Description

The first EP from the pioneers of French electro-dub, now available on LP for the first time. In an era where one might rush to discover the latest EP from any new artist buoyed by fleeting buzz, the quintet from Angers offers something far more valuable: a career. Twenty-odd years dedicated to their distinctive music, materialized by ten albums (plus a few special releases) of exemplary quality. A flawless journey, punctuated by invaluable collaborations (Jamika, Sir Jean, Tricky, Paul St Hilaire, Winston McAnuff, Vincent Segal, …) that helped enrich a body of work initially devoid of vocals. For at the heart of Zenzile was dub, that instrumental version of reggae, an invention of Jamaican sound sorcerers, laden with echo, delay, and reverb. Along with a few others (Improvisators Dub, High Tone, Brain Damage, …), Zenzile delved into its foundations in France, with a unique approach. Their dub, expansive and cinematic, is performed live with bass, drums, keyboards, and saxophone. Over the years and across their discography, the band has continually evolved the musical genre, dabbling in rock, electro, new wave, funk-punk, and krautrock.
