Rachmaninoff: The Piano Concertos & Paganini Rhapsody

To mark the 150th anniversary of Rachmaninoff, Yuja Wang performed with the L.A. Philharmonic, under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel, the composer's four piano concertos and his Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Deutsche Grammophon releases today the recording of these critically acclaimed performances. Rachmaninoff, who was himself an extraordinarily talented pianist, wrote a wide range of highly expressive music for the piano, including these five works for piano and orchestra. They have been part of Yuja's repertoire since the beginning of her career, and she continually enriches their kaleidoscopic richness with new discoveries. She has already worked several times with Dudamel and the L.A. Philharmonic, and these performances exude a strong sense of mutual respect and understanding. As Dudamel notes: "we connect as if we were playing chamber music."
