Way To Be, the debut album by artist Nick Llobet, aka youbet, based in Brooklyn, follows his first album released in 2020 on Ba Da Bing! Records. A beautiful album with melodic, layered pop-rock arrangements that blend rock and electronic instruments with poignant, witty, and vulnerable lyrics. Nick, who grew up in South Florida, learned to play guitar at a very young age, experimenting with everything from classical to blues, classic rock, and flamenco. He spent a good part of his twenties searching for his voice as an artist and as an individual, as well as a musical community. He eventually moved to Brooklyn, but after three years of seeking a promising artistic breakthrough, he was considering giving up writing altogether. After an almost prophetic coincidence in which he randomly met Patti Smith in the subway, Nick regained hope. He self-produced Way To Be and describes the process as a huge and laborious undertaking akin to making an entire film. Along the way, collaborators such as Julian Fader (Ava Luna), Adam Brisbin (Buck Meek), and Daniel Siles joined in. Through the 12 delightfully quirky songs of Way To Be, Nick uses wordplay and deadpan humor to indirectly explore dysfunctional relationships, regrets, self-confidence or lack thereof, homosexuality, and self-discovery.
