Wewantsounds is delighted to announce the release of one of the most sought-after Japanese albums of the 70s, Yoshiko Sai's folk-funk classic "Mangekyou". Produced in 1975 by cult musician Yuji Ohno, the album marries Yoshiko Sai's songs and crystalline voice with Ohno's masterful funk inflections. The album's reputation has grown among collectors over the years, and original copies now fetch high prices. The album is driven by Yoshiko Sai's unique songwriting touch, alternating between up-tempo tracks like "Yoru No Sei" and "Fuyu No Chikadou" and more atmospheric ballads such as "Tsubaki Wa Ochita Kaya" or "Yukionna". It's worth noting that Ohno brings elements of traditional Japanese music to his sophisticated arrangements, with the use of shakuhachi (bamboo flute), tsuzumi (drum) and biwa (short-necked lute), giving the music its timeless touch. Mangekyou is available outside Japan for the first time with remastered audio, original artwork, and a 4-page booklet including new liner notes by Paul Bowler.
