After teasing their grand return after nine years of absence, Yeah Yeah Yeahs are officially back with a new album and a new single. Karen O, Nick Zinner, and Brian Chase announce today the release of their fifth studio album, Cool It Down, scheduled for September 30 via Secretly Canadian, featuring photographs by Alex Prager. This collection of eight tracks, a new step in their career, is a skillful distillation of their best recipe, to be listened to carefully, which will make you move and touch you emotionally. Cool It Down is available for pre-order now. On the occasion of this big announcement, the band is sharing today the opening track of the album, the single Spitting Off the Edge produced by Dave Sitek, featuring Perfume Genius. This powerful and haunting track is inhabited by the instantly recognizable voices of Karen O and Perfume Genius. The lyrics address the state of the environment and the need for honesty about the damage we are causing to the Earth. Karen explains: "I see young generations looking at this threat, and they are standing on the edge of a precipice, facing what is happening with anger and defiance," she says. "It's galvanizing and hopeful." Perfume Genius co-stars alongside Karen in the Spitting video, appearing as a limousine driver and vengeful angel. The video was directed by the band's longtime collaborator, Cody Critcheloe (aka Ssion), who designed the artwork for Fever To Tell and also directed the stunning video for Perfume Genius's single Queen.
