Eliel then decided to return to the original lineup. This marked the return of the dream team with legendary pianist Javier "Caramelo de Cuba" Masso (Jerry Gonzalez, Enrique Morente, Diego el Cigala, Concha Buika), bassist Yasser Pino (The Afrocuban All Stars, The Latin Syndicate, Roberto Fonseca), the incredibly talented and Grammy Award-winning drummer Raul Pineda (Chucho Valdès, Eric Marienthal, Michel Camilo), and Eliel Lazo himself. In March 2019, they recorded this album at the famous Musigrama studio in Madrid. Cuban Jazz Report is the stunning modernity of contemporary Afro-Cuban music and the coming together of exceptional musicians. Afro-Cuban clave rhythms are enhanced by extraordinary jazz harmonies and improvisations. The listener is immediately carried away by the fresh sounds of bolero, baião, Latin grooves, with a pinch of bebop added. This explosive rhythmic model, combined with the nostalgia of Cuban ballads (called boleros), plunges us into a true "Cuban descarga (jam session)." It’s honest music, rich in emotion, and in opposition to the many commercial clichés often associated with Latin jazz.
