Radio Paradise

Après deux ans de tournée solo, Yaron Herman presents his new album Radio Paradise. He returns with an exceptional lineup and joins forces with two saxophonists at the top of their game: María Grand, an international rising star, and Alexandra Grimal, a major figure in improvised music. This album takes us on a quest for lyricism, depth, and sincerity with elegant melodies and powerful rhythms, in a project that is both spiritual and deeply moving.
« When I started working on this album, melody was the first thing that came to mind. I have written a lot in recent years, mainly in my notebooks, for myself. On the road or at home, long lines or short fragments. Over time (and with hard work), these « motifs » began to take shape and turn into « pieces ». By playing them, exploring what they could become, I realized that I was looking for a sound that was not « just » the piano. These melodies needed another voice.
The saxophonists Maria Grand and Alexandra Grimal have different approaches, but both have that mysterious, powerful, and lyrical quality I was looking for. These characteristics, combined with the magnificent sound and rhythmic versatility of Haggai Cohen Milo, as well as the playing and valuable ideas of my long-time musician brother, Ziv Ravitz, allowed these songs to truly come to life throughout the process.
In the studio, we were fortunate to rely on the experience and perspective of producer Daniel Yvinec, who encouraged us to push the music further, to take risks. I imagined each composition as a different scenario, a landscape offering fertile ground from which improvisation could develop.
Improvisation: a quest for balance between freedom and constraint. The playful aspect of it. Providing the tools but not the final structure, providing the canvas but not dictating what should be painted on it. That is how radio paradise came into being. We came across the title in the studio, while discussing how opposites complement each other and our role as artists, which is to reconcile what seems opposed. Finding the space where the music flows effortlessly and comes from the heart. »
